Formé à Isla Vista en Californie, le groupe d'origine constitué par le chanteur Whitfield Crane et le guitariste Klaus Eichstadt est renforcé en 1989 avec les venues de Cordell Crockett (basse) et de Mark Davis (batterie), puis de Dave Fortman (guitare) en 1992. Premier album original du groupe depuis dix-neuf ans, Uglier Than They Used to Be voit le jour en 2015 grâce à un financement participatif et invite le guitariste Phil Campbell et la chanteuse australienne Dallas Frasca. Sept ans après suit le cinquième album Rad Wings of Destiny (2022), avec pour nouveau batteur Zac Morris.
