Tuxedomoon est né à San Francisco, fondé par Steven Brown et Blaine Reininger, duo rejoint par Peter Principle et Winston Tong. Né sur les décombres du post-punk et plus ou moins lié à la new-wave californienne qui commençait à poindre, Tuxedomoon crée un son nouveau, empreint d'influences jazz.
