En 1982, la violoniste tchèque Jana Vlachová fonde le Quatuor Vlach de Prague (Vlachovo kvarteto Praha), mais l'histoire de cet ensemble remonte à 1949, année où son père, le grand violoniste, chef d'orchestre et pédagogue Josef Vlach crée, avec quelques musiciens de l'Orchestre de Chambre tchèque, le premier Quatuor Vlach.
