En 1997, après des années de piano classique puis jazz, Nikus Pokus fonde les Svinkels avec Gérard Baste. Ils seront ensuite rejoints par Mr. Xavier et DJ Pone, également DJ des Birdy Nam Nam. Leur style corrosif radicalement différent du reste du hip-hop hexagonal leur taille une place particulière dans le paysage musical français.
