Le groupe belge Mintzkov se forme à Anvers à la fin des années 1990. Il se constitue de Philip Bosschaerts (guitare, chant), Daan Scheltjens (guitare), Lies Lorquet (basse, chant), Pascal Oorts (claviers) et Minchul Van Steenkiste (batterie). Raccourci en Mintzkov, il remporte le concours du meilleur groupe du magazine belge Humo en 2000.
