Ses influences vont de Link Wray à Freddie King et Otis Redding. Il a commencé à se produire dans les clubs de Blues et de Jazz de Rochester à 13 ans et à joué avec Chris Duarte, The Nighthawks, Joe Beard et JD McPherson. McKinley a sorti son premier EP « Live in Nashville » en octobre 2016, au Family Wash. 2019 marque la sortie du tout nouvel EP original de McKonley « By My Side » suivi en 2021 de « Still Standing By » coproduit par Dan Auerbach (The Black Keys) et en 2022 d'un nouvel LP live capturant l'énergie de ses concerts.
