Chemise carreaulée et guitare en main, Jason Collett s'illustre d'abord dans Bird, formation Alt-country éphémère dont il reste « Chrome Reflection » paru en 2000. On le retrouve ensuite dans le groupe indie-rock Radio Mondays avant qu'il ne rejoigne Broken Social Scene (BSS) de 2002 (après la parution de l'album « You Forgot In People ») à 2005. Avec Broken Social Scene, Jason Collett rentre de facto dans la famille Arts & Crafts (label de BSS, Stars, Feist, Metric).
