Le groupe se forme en 1996, dans le Maryland puis se fait remarquer en 2000 en remportant un tremplin musical aux Etats-Unis. La même année, Good Charlotte sort son premier album éponyme chez Sony. Début 2003, Good Charlotte sort son second opus, "Young And Hopeless". En octobre 2004 sort "Chronicles of life and death"
